INTERNATIONAL BÉKÉSY CENTENARY CONFERENCE ON HEARING
AND RELATED SCIENCES
This scientific Conference has been held to mark the centenary of the birth
of the Nobel Prize-winner György Békésy. It covered the latest novelties in his fields
of scientific activity and also the effect of his work for posterity. The conference has
taken place during the days 24-26 June, 1999 in Budapest, just before the
World Science Congress of UNESCO, organised by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences
(on June 27 -July 1, 1999). The International Békésy Centenary Conference is a
multidisciplinary conference, that inlcuded the following scientific fields : audiology,
hearing technology and research, human sensory science, speech research and technology,
physical and theoretical acoustics, telecommunications, history of science. The
official language of the conference was English. Parallel with the conference, there has
been an Exhibition presenting new equipments, technologies and measuring instruments.

Announcement from The EUROPEAN ACOUSTICS ASSOCIATION
Dear Colleagues,
Due to an unfortunate mistake in the printing of ACTA ACUSTICA, the advertisement for
DOCUMENTA ACUSTICA is missing from the last issue of our journal. Instead there is a blank
page on page 400.
As you know, DOCUMENTA ACUSTICA - the literature distribution system of the EAA - is a
fairly new product, and the omission of the ad in the journal creates a publicity gap of
two months.
Luckily, there is an alternative access to the program of DOCUMENTA ACUSTICA namely
through the EAA web page
"http://eaa.essex.ac.uk/eaa/"
From here, one can spot the DOCUMENTA list of issues as well as order forms and
information on the content of the individual issues on the list.
Since the last ad has been published, a number of interesting new issues have been added -
one of them being a CD with a tool box for experiments in auditory virtual reality.
May I kindly ask you to make this information available to your society members, e.g.,
through your local newsletters, e-mail lists, etc.
Jens Blauert, Professor
Chairman of the Board of the
European Acoustics Association (EEIG)
INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM
on NOISE CONTROL & ACOUSTICS FOR EDUCATIONAL BUILDINGS (24-28 May, 2000)
Education is one of the most important subjects on all over the world. As
auditorial perception, is one of the basic elements of the learning process, in the
design and use of educational buildings, improvement of the acoustical comfort
conditions should be unavoidable. For more information please go to the page of International Symposium.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF FORUM ACUSTICUM
Dear Secretariat of Acoustical Society,
On behalf of the FORUM ACUSTICUM 2005 Budapest Organising Committee, we send our regards
to you in the New Year and wish you great success in your work in the year 2005. The
Organising Committee hopes and strives to ensure that EAA’s international acoustics
conference this year will be a memorable event from both professional and social aspects.
We are very glad that both on EAA’s web-site, and other web-sites of a number of
scientific associations, visitors can find a link to the web-site of the FA2005 event (www.fa2005.org), thus assisting in the preparation
process. Establishing links is still a typical task, since the deadline for the abstract
entries is approaching soon. In case you think that the application procedure should be
made easier, we would be honoured if you placed a link on your web-site to the FORUM
ACUSTICUM 2005 Budapest web-site (please click to load pdf
file). The Organising Committee is of the strong opinion that the importance of the
event would be largely accentuated if those interested in this field could also find a
link to the FA2005 conference on the web-page of various European acoustics associations,
in addition to the great amount of additional information they provide.
The electronic version of the second invitation to the event has been sent to a great
number of addresses directly, and we are sending this material to your address as an
attachment. We hope that the attached file will get to you. We also think that the
information of the acoustics experts would be greatly assisted, and the significance of
the conference would be highlighted, if this second invitation also reached our colleagues
through the national acoustic societies.
We hope that our joint efforts will be successful and that we can meet a lot of our
colleagues either as a presenter or as participants at the FORUM ACUSTICUM international
conference in Budapest.
Sincerely,
The Organising Committee of FORUM ACUSTICUM
